The Importance of Interior Plants

Take a few minutes and picture your home and workspace. Does either location have interior plants? Maybe you have one or two at home but none at work; perhaps your employer values plants and your office has multiple plants throughout, or sees them as unnecessary, extra work, or a waste of space.

My house has a few plants in the dining and living rooms. My workspace, the office at Snips, is full of plants. In the Snips office we have a variety of large potted plants including a rubber plant, dracaena fragans and ferns. There is also a green wall featuring prayer plants, crotons, pothos, and sedums. Each desk in the office also has at least one small potted plant. Kristi has a money tree, Tasha a pothos, Alena a Silver Queen Evergreen, and myself a Doritaenopsis Orchid.

Interior plants are attractive to look at and nice to decorate a room, but did you know they offer proven health benefits as well? Over the last few weeks I have read many different articles describing the benefits of having interior plants and I want to share some of them with you in this blog.

One of the articles I read explored a study that proved people in offices with interior plants were more productive, took fewer sick days, made fewer mistakes and were overall happier than the group without. The same article explored the benefits of interior plants with patients in hospitals and students in classroom situations.  Both determined that each population performed better when exposed to interior plants.

Does it surprise you that something so simple could have such positive impact on your life?

Interior Plants provide a natural solution to clean indoor air. Their presence reduces carbon dioxide levels, airborne dust levels, temperature and other pollutants such as benzene and nitrogen dioxide. Interior plants also help to increase humidity and lower background noise making the environment more comfortable for occupants.

Another study I came across focused on retail locations. It conducted studies in stores and shopping centers with plant environments and compared them to those without. The study observed that customers will visit more frequently, stay longer, rate the quality of the products 30% higher, and are will to pay about 12% more for goods purchased at stores with plant environments. That is pretty impressive if you ask me, it isn’t even taking into consideration the fact that the staff are experiencing all of the positive benefits listed above from being surrounded by plants.

Maybe you are an employer reading this blog and realizing you would like to get interior plants in your workplace, or perhaps you are an individual who wants to bring a few plants to their desk at work. Whoever you are, you, your employees, and coworkers can benefit from this simple task. There are many different kinds of interior plants for all types of environments including low or high light, moist or dry environments, easy to care for or more difficult. Plants are just as unique as we are. At Snips, we have an interior plant maintenance program where we care for your plants for you. We have a number of business locations we visit once a week to water, rotate, dust, prune, and trim their interior plants. Please call us if you are interested in a quote to maintain your existing plants, or if you would like us to bring in plants and start you on your new venture. You won’t regret it. Leave the hard stuff to us. We can pick out the proper plants for your workspace, plant them in planters of your choice, and come to maintain them once a week. It’s as easy as that - you just sit back and enjoy all the benefits of a healthy work environment.
